"On Sunday, April 19, 2009, Faye Rose, our beloved mother, grandmother great-and great-great-grandmother, passed away at her home in Pineville. She was 103 years of age."She was born Aug. 25, 1905, at Matheny, to the late Dr. Lewis S. Workman and Eva Stewart Workman.
"In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton W. Rose; three brothers, French, Elmer and Frank Workman; and two sons-in-law, U.J. Shannon and James Dow Cook.
"Through her father, she was a direct descendant of John Cooke, the first settler of Wyoming County, and through her mother she was a direct descendant of Captain Ralph Stewart, the second settler of Wyoming County.
"She had been a resident of Pineville since 1923. For several years she and her husband, operated the Rose Hotel and Barber Shop. In later years her husband was elected Justice of the Peace. Following his death she was appointed to fill the vacancy, and later was twice elected to the office.
"She was an avid collector of antiques and a lover of her family, her home, her flowers and her dog Holly, who was her constant companion for 14 years. She was christened “Mom Faye” by her small granddaughter, and for the rest of her years the family lovingly referred to her by that name.
"She was a member of the Pineville First United Methodist Church and was one of two honorees at the Pineville Centennial celebration dinner in 2007.
"Her surviving children include two daughters, Mildred Shannon and Lucille Cook, both of Pineville; one son, Harold Rose and his wife, Anna Marie, of South Charleston; her grandchildren, Patricia Shannon Olsen and her husband, Dave, of Fairfield Glade, TN, Michael Shannon of Playa del Rey, CA, James Dow Cook and his wife, Paula, of Roswell, GA, Scott Rose and his wife, Grace, of South Charleston, and Sean Rose and his fiancé, Jeanne Kinder, of South Charleston; her great-grandchildren, Dr. Chris Olsen and his wife, Eden, of Nashville, TN, Dara Shannon Schofield and her husband, Brad, of Little River, SC, Lauren Cook Pomarico and Tyler Cook of Roswell, GA, and Justice Harold Rose of South Charleston; and her three great-great-grandchildren, Logan Bradley and Sloan Elizabeth Schofield of Little River, SC and Elliott John Pomarico of Roswell, GA..."
