"OCEANA — Ernest Marvin Walker, loving husband, father, grandfather and best friend, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006, at the age of 51 years, 9 months and 28 days at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, with his loving family by his side following a courageous battle with C and S clotting disorder. "Ernest loved to fish, enjoyed basketball and loved NAS-CAR. He loved spending time with his family, especially his only granddaughter, Kaylee Leann, whom he loved very much. Ernest was a member of Crany Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized Oct. 28, 1973. He was also an active member of Delilah Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and helped with the youth. He was a member of Local Union 1503. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him. "Born March 14, 1954, at Crany, he was the son of the late Clayton and Minnie B. Elswick Walker. "In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Marvin Walker; a daughter, Kristi Lynn Walker; a brother, Leonard C. Walker; and his father-in-law, Shelby Brown. "Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 30 wonderful years, Teresa L. Brown Walker; a daughter, Tracy Walker Reed and her husband, Joe, of Oceana; his precious granddaughter, Kaylee Leann Reed “Cottontop”; mother-in-law, Helen Brown “Ma Kettle” of Oceana; two brothers, the Rev. James A. Walker and his wife, Kathleen, of Oceana and Raymond C. Walker and his wife, Betty, of Keyrock; five sisters, Glenna Toler and her husband, Rev. Eual, of Oceana, Sybil Rose of Oceana, Joyce Griffith and her husband, Adrain, of Oceana, Bernice Giles and her husband, Rev. Roy, of Gordonsville, Va., and Elizabeth Linton and her husband, Darrell, of Dunnellton, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends. "A celebration of Ernest’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Adam Toler Memorial Chapel, Oceana, with the Revs. Rick Chester, James Walker and Raymond Walker officiating.
