She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Alfred Laxton, her parents William Harrison and Vergie Jewell; her sisters Peggy Mullins, Glenna Mulkey, Ada Brooks, Barbara Brown, Loretta Canterbury, and Zelma Stewart; her brothers Olen Jewell, William Harrison Jewell, Jr., Vermin Jewell; her daughter-in-law Kimberly Hall-Laxton. Irene is survived by her seven children: Michael Laxton, Diana Cook and her husband Tom, Roger Laxton, Karen Allen and her husband Danny, Terry Laxton and wife Lisa, Kathy Tilley and her husband Shawn, Mark Laxton and his wife Jessica; twenty-one grandchildren, twentyseven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; her brother, David (Vergie) Jewell; a host of nieces and nephews and her church family. The legacy and influence Irene left can be seen in her family and the love they share, the musical gifts and songs they sing, and their faith in God. Five generations have felt her love, sang her songs, heard her prayers, and seen her love for God and her faithfulness to God and her family. That is the legacy of Irene Jewell Laxton."
