"Born in Panther, he was the son of the late Harrison and Lydia Blankenship. He spent most of his life in Hurley, Va. until sharing his retirement years between Okeechobee, Fla. and Abingdon. "He was of the Protestant faith, The Proprietor of A & N Coal Co., The Village Center Mobile Home Sales and the Village Country Store & Trailer Park. He was a member of the United States Armed Forces serving with the United States Marine Corps during World War II and served in the South Pacific Area receiving the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Blankenship loved hunting and fishing.
"He was preceded in death by his parents, Harrison and Lydia Blankenship; one infant daughter, Diana Lynn Blankenship; one grandson, Joseph Michael Marino; five sisters, Virgie Crockett, Pearl Stacy, Meade Yates, Frances Stacy and Mary Carter.
