"My ancestors came from England to Ashe County, North Carolina and Grayson County, Virginia."I was born on September 3, 1933 at our home at Barkers Ridge in Wyoming County.
My parents are the late Mary Shrewsbury (deceased 11 /8/67) and the late Drewey Jesse Blankenship (deceased 11/4/80) The attending physician was Dr. Steele, who was assisted by Ethel Shrewsbury Lester. My material grandparents were Andrew Jackson and Rebecca Lester Shrewsbur'y. My paternal grandparents were Gidion James and Rebecca Jane Pendry Blankenship." I have three sisters, Lorene, Ella and Jane and three brothers , Charles ( deceased 7/13/88), Walter and Troy. My father was a coal miner and farmer and my mother was a homemaker, We grew up without television. I can remember when electricity was hooked up to our house (October, 1949). I also can remember when a road was built to our house (November, 1944). I enjoyed collecting sap from sugar maple trees and making syrup from it. My hobbies were hunting, swimming and bird watching,
"I attended school at a one room school (Sand Gap) at Barker Ridge for five years.
Then I transferred to Stephenson Grade School. We had Christmas parties and plays, Valentine parties, Easter egg hunts, hikes, and end of the year picnics. In 1952 at age 18 I graduated from Mullens High School."I was married on January 7, 1956 to Sylvia Pauline Bishop at Lapeer, Michigan, by Elder Frank B. Thompson. Pauline is the daughter of Roy and Virgie Lane Bishop. She is a homemaker. We started housekeeping in Flint, Michigan, but later moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, which is our present home.
"M y wife and I have two sons . James Eugene who was born on September 21, 1956 is a plumber and musician. Melvin Winford, born on August 17, 1957 is a plumber.We also have two grandchildren, Courtney Lynn and Caitlyn Beth.
"I have worked at Bartlett Tree Experts, Buckeye Coal, and Coke Company, Chrysler Corporation, U.S. Army, Buick Motor Corporation, London Bridge Plumbing Company, Princess Anne Plumbing Company, and the City of Virginia Beach which is my present employer. I also own a part time business.
"My wife and I are members of London Bridge Baptist Church.

Tilley Dixon.
"He was a member of the New Zion Church of Old Regular Baptists, where he served as a deacon. He was a U.S. Army veteran and in 1982 retired from Cabot Corporation.
"In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Dixon and wife, Beulah, and infant brother Elvie; sisters Sylvia Green and husband, Willie, Hazel Blankenship and husband, Hiley, and Edna Green and husband, Andy; brother-in-law, Arnold Green; and father- and mother-in-law Lacy and Susie Tolliver Phillips.
"He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geneva Phillips Dixon; three sons, Michael Sidney Dixon and wife, Deborah, of Bluefield, Va., Richard John Dixon and wife, Loukia, of Huntington, and Kevin Dean Dixon and wife, Claudene, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Christopher Dixon and wife, Lori, of Vinton, Va., Matthew Dixon and fiancée Melissa Dumas of Charlotte, N.C., Jessica Dixon and fiancé Shane Harris of Bluefield, Va., Basil, John and Christianna Dixon, all of Huntington, and Philip and Stephen Idol, both of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth, Heidi and Brooklyn; two sisters, Pauline Phillips and husband, Bryce, of Saulsville and Mae Green of Welch-Pineville Road; and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews.
