"Milam, Emazella, 84, of Matheny died at her home Friday morning after a long illness. Born Aug. 26, 1889, at Mullens, she was a daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Rowe Whitt. Survivors include her husband, James T. Matheny; seven sons, James of Matheny, Horace of Otsego, Casey of Matheny, Jack of Crown City, Ohio, Rev. Jesse Milam of Matheny, Thomas of New Richmond and Herbert of Lester; one daughter, Mrs. Delores Rhinehart of Matheny; three brothers, Joe Whitt of Helen and Johnny Whitt of Princeton; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Lester of Mullens and Mrs. Nancy Goad of Basin; 26 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Gardens at Matheny. [Beckley Post-Herald ( no date other than 1973)]"
