How
Coal Exchange
Works

Coal Exchange is an Internet site, which facilitates coal selling and purchasing. The site is a real-time communication supplement to existing sales/ purchasing systems and is intended for use by existing coal sales and procurement personnel.

Producers enter their coal offerings on the system by responding to user-friendly questions about transportation, quality guarantees, and other particulars. These entries are secure and are not available to other producers. The producer's identity is released to the consumer only after interest has been expressed in a specific offering and the producer has confirmed that the coal remains available. Producer's offerings are instantly entered into the system and are available for consumer query and purchase.

Consumers query the system to obtain a listing of coals that fulfill their supply criteria. Searchable criteria include transportation (mode and origin) quality, sulfur, and size specifications.

The solicitation bulletin board provides a site where consumers' active coal solicitations can be posted, either spot or contract. Producers can respond directly to specific solicitations through the Coal Exchange system. Responses are directed to an individual mailbox for each consumer.

Once a consumer has expressed initial interest in a specific coal and the producer confirms availability, the parties are introduced so they may finalize negotiations and close the transaction.

There are no fees for producers to enter coals into the system or for consumers to conduct a query. A small transaction fee is charged producers and consumers only on completed sales/purchases.
